About Us - Our Tutors

All of the tutors at Mentaur Learning Center are professional educators and/or experts in their fields. All of them enjoy working with students and especially appreciate the opportunity to be more creative and flexible in their approaches to instruction than is possible in a classroom setting. We have teachers who are trained to instruct students from kindergarten through high school and undergraduate studies, covering all subject areas.

Mentaur currently has 5 full time tutors, 2 math and 2 english, and one science.

The Math Department:

She graduated from NC State University with a BS in Mathematics. Her first job was in the insurance industry where she worked as an actuary and statistical analyst before starting a family. After spending time at home to raise her children and moving with her family to Texas, Carolynn began tutoring and substitute teaching. Soon after, she got her teaching certification in Special Education and Mathematics 4-12. She worked as a High School Special Education teacher for 3 years then moved into the Mathematics Department where she taught Algebra, Geometry, Math Modeling, and Algebra 2. In May, 2015, Carolynn and her husband moved back to North Carolina, settling in Denver. She began tutoring at Mentaur in January, 2016 and took over as owner in July, 2016. Math is her passion and she enjoys seeing students who struggle in Math find success.

He also earned three advanced Certificates past his Masters and became certified in teaching gifted students. He worked in Charlotte as a Gifted and Talented teacher for almost twenty years. The English Department:

Ginny Wirzbicki:

ginnyGinny’s background includes a mix of marketing, education and the arts.  While working in advertising and marketing, Ginny satisfied her desire to educate by teaching dance for many years, but still wanted to earn her degree and teach English.  After moving to North Carolina in 1992, she started working on obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree and graduated from the University of North Carolina Charlotte in 2004 as a true 49er (at the age of 49!), just one week after her oldest daughter graduated from Appalachian State University.  Earning her degree opened doors to new opportunities: she taught 10th grade English for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School system.  Then she worked (and still does work) as a team leader and reader/evaluator with Measurement Inc. and Educational Testing Service (ETS) on the essay and open-ended portions of the End-of-Grade Tests for various states throughout the nation and the SAT.  Her experience working with both students and the companies that administer these tests affords her a unique ability to assist students with the skills needed to meet or exceed their grade level requirements. Ginny enjoys working with students on college planning, college entrance exam preparation, English-related courses, and study skills. Even though Ginny has relocated to Florida, she still continues to work with students at Mentaur via Skype and is an excellent reference for college planning.

 Sheila Woodward:

sheilaSheila Woodward is a graduate of Washington Bible College and has taught elementary through high school students for more than twenty years. She owned her own tutoring company after working with all ages for five years at Huntington Learning Center. She has also taught the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) program for several years. Currently, she is a substitute teacher at Lincoln County Schools and Lincoln Charter School, having just signed on to substitute at SouthLake Christian Academy, as well. Sheila is happy to be helping students succeed at Mentaur Learning Center!

The Science Department:

Erin Bodsford:

erinErin is a new addition to our staff and we are glad to have her expertise. Erin graduated from Wingate University in 2014 with a BS in Chemistry. She worked as a chemist for the past two years but found that lab work just wasn't for her. She loved learning about chemistry too much to do the same test every day, so she thought tutoring would be a great way to share her love of science with others. She looks forward to meeting new students and furthering their education and hopefully their love of science.
